SeamlessAccess is a collaborative, not-for-profit effort between identity federations, research infrastructure organisations, publishers and library organisations. It’s goal is to streamline access to scholarly content while maintaining the highest standards of security, privacy, and usability.
More than the SeamlessAccess Service
In addition to running the SeamlessAccess service, the initiative actively engages with the research and library communities on broader access-related topics. By sharing insights and fostering dialogue, SeamlessAccess supports organizations — particularly those with limited resources — raising awareness about risks and opportunities and navigating changes across the access landscape.
One example of this work is the ‘Access Audit Toolkit’, designed to help librarians develop a better understanding of access solutions offered by vendors. This toolkit has been presented and refined through multiple stages at conferences and community forums. SeamlessAccess has also provided guidance on key technical developments such as changes in browser behaviour, including the ongoing changes related to third-party cookie policies and the impact they may have on access to scholarly content and resources.
Governance and organisation
SeamlessAccess is managed by the Coalition for SeamlessAccess, a collaboration between four organizations: GÉANT, Internet2, the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), and the International Association of STM Publishers (STM).
